Set in the fictional third world country of Canpuna, 'Werewolf in a Womens Prison' is the story of Sarah, when camping with her boyfriend, is attacked by a werewolf. She wakes up in a corrupt prison only to find out her boyfriend has been torn apart and she is the only suspect. Forced to do things only found in a prison populated only by women it's only a matter of time until that strange bite starts to take effect.

Genre-mixing seems to be the popular thing to do these days, and really, it should only surprise us that it took this long. I mean, a filmmaker can make a zombie flick, and that flick would appeal to zombie fans. A filmmaker could make a vampire movie, and that movie would appeal to vampire fans... but make a movie with both zombies and vampires, and bam, you've just doubled your audience. Whether or not those viewers enjoy your product is secondary, because you've already sold them your disc. Most of the mixing and matching of genres has been done already, but here's one that was new to me: werewolf horror and "women in prison" exploitation.
We begin down in the small Mexican town of Canpuna, where we discover that young lovers Sarah (Victoria De Mare) and Jack (Vinnie Bilancio) are going camping with nothing more than a bottle of booze and a box of condoms to keep them entertained. The night's festivities do not last long, however, as a werewolf shows up to make things interesting. Jack winds up dead, Sarah winds up bitten, and the werewolf is killed when Sarah breaks the bottle of vodka over its head - you see, it was that fancy vodka that had real silver flakes floating around in it. Lucky for her, am I right?
Well, she doesn't think that she's too lucky when she wakes up in a Mexican prison. It turns out that the authorities around here don't believe her story, and in fact, they think that Sarah is responsible for this murder. As if that wasn't bad enough, she quickly discovers that she is in one of the worst prisons around, a prison that is run by Warden Juan (Domiziano Arcangeli) and his sidekick Rita (Jackeline Olivier), a pair of sadists who enjoy raping the prisoners, selling them out to the locals as sex slaves, and putting their nude photos online on their "Prison Girls Gone Wild" website. Still not bad enough for her? Well, the disfigured corpse that was once her boyfriend occasionally shows up to taunt her in an obvious nod to An American Werewolf in London.
Fellow prisoner Rachel (Eva Derrek) soon takes a liking to Sarah after the two are involved in a prison-yard brawl, but their friendship alone will not be enough to survive in this prison... however, Sarah's newfound lycanthropy may be just the thing to get them out. At the very least, it will definitely cause some heads to roll.
Shockingly, Werewolf in a Women's Prison is a seamless blend of the two genres. I'm only being honest when I say that I expected one genre or the other to dominate the running time: I figured that it would be a cheesy werewolf flick with a couple of shower scenes, or alternatively, a skin-flick with a cheesy werewolf thrown in for good measure. That is not the case. This is a legitimate women-in-prison exploitation flick that will make fans of that sleazy little genre proud, and at the same time, it is also an honest-to-goodness werewolf movie that will put a smile on the face of those fans. If you're like me and happen to enjoy both genres, you're in for a damned fun night in front of the tube with this release, but even if you only like one or the other, you're sure to find a lot to love here.
As for the women-in-prison side of things, all of the genre trademarks are present and accounted for. You've got the evil warden making life a living hell for all of the prisoners, you've got the female sidekick demanding sexual favors from them, the crooked guards selling cigarettes for blowjobs, and of course, the forced lesbianism and accompanying chick-fights. It should go without saying that there is tons of nudity on display here, but for the slower readers out there, there you have it.
The werewolf side of things doesn't necessarily take a back seat, however, as there are numerous transformations and a handful of massacres throughout the film. People are torn to pieces, heads are ripped off, and entire bodies are split in two when this she-wolf gets going, and gorehounds will absolutely love seeing all of the blood and gore flying around the sets. The werewolf itself also looks pretty damned good, with the exception of the red LED lights that serve as its eyes. The eyes make it look a little campy, but otherwise, it is an impressive (and entirely practical!) werewolf that looks appropriately terrifying.
Overall, I'm giving this one a thumbs up. It's not a perfect film and it may not make any top ten lists when all is said and done, but if you're in the mood for a fun flick that features lots of boobs and blood and if you happen to love werewolves, you're going to enjoy it. I guarantee that. 8/10.

This was pretty fucking terrible. In a good way I
mean. Lots of blood, lots of boobs, plenty of
tongue in cheek action. Plus, I kind of liked the
aesthetic of the werewolf. It looked extremely
cheap of course, but it was a really nice thought.
No reason to watch this again, but I enjoyed it
when it was on.
