In this sequel of the first Jack Frost movie, Sheriff Sam Tiler, his wife Anne, and Sam's two deputies (also husband and wife) decide to go on a Caribbean vacation to take their minds off the traumatic events of the previous movie in a place with absolutely no snow. Their holiday will be short-lived, however, as the thawed murderer gets inadvertently re-frozen and brought back to life. As if that weren't bad enough, he now has the ability to remain frozen even in tropical temperatures, and he's headed south to settle some old scores. --IMDb

In this sequel to 1997's Jack Frost, Sheriff Sam Tiler (Christopher Allport), his wife Anne (Eileen Seeley), and Sam's two deputies (who are about to get married) decide to go on a Caribbean vacation for Christmas in order to take their minds off the gruesome events of the previous movie. Their holiday will be short-lived, however, as Jack Frost gets inadvertently re-frozen and brought back to life. And this time Jack is even more deadly, with the ability to remain frozen even in tropical temperatures.

I actually like Jack Frost 2 more than the original. It basically brings back the successful characteristics of the first Jack Frost (wacky comedy; gore) and abandons those characteristics that weren't so successful the first time around (seriousness). Yeah, whereas Jack Frost took itself serious at times, Jack Frost 2 never takes itself seriously. It's just a goofy gore-comedy from beginning to end.

Speaking of gore, this sequel is way gorier than the first one. People are stabbed with icicles, one poor guy gets his tongue ripped out, and severed body parts are discovered all over the island. There's even some nudity. A beautiful woman goes swimming nude one night. And Jack has some "fun" with her.

All of the actors play their parts really well, and they all seem to be in on the joke. Christopher Allport is good as the concerned sheriff who believes Jack is back...and he's right. Sam's deputies, Joe and Marla (Chip Heller and Marsha Clark) are good at playing soon to be newlyweds who are annoyed that Sam is trying to ruin their vacation with all his Jack talk. Sean Patrick Murphy plays Captain Fun, and his performance is very...fun. My favorite actor has to be David Allen Brooks, though. He plays no-nonsense Agent Manners, and reminded me of Leslie Nielson in the Naked Gun films. He even has his own cheesy theme music that plays whenever he's onscreen. Unfortunately, he isn't onscreen nearly enough. He should've been the star.

There's only one negative I can think of when it comes to the ultra-fun Jack Frost 2, and that is that Jack disappears for a while, when the movie pays attention to some baby snowballs from hell. The snowballs are cute at first, but they did get tiresome after a while. Thankfully, Jack returns with a vengeance for the films over-the-top finale.

If you are looking for a serious horror movie this season, check out Silent Night Deadly Night or Black Christmas. However, if you just want a campy good time, then you should definitely watch Jack Frost 2: The Revenge Of The Mutant Killer Snowman, a horror-comedy that I give a 9/10.

Does anyone remember the family film starring Michael Keaton entitled "Jack Frost"? I remember seeing the first one on video shelves and thinking it was odd and also really funny that they had used the same title. I caught some of this movie on TV and changed channels almost immediately. I like comedic horror like Tremors, but this was just stupid in my opinion.
