At John Hughes High School, the students are the same as just about every other teenager in a teen movie. The popular jock, Jake, takes a bet from Austin, the cocky blonde guy, that he can transform Janey, the pretty ugly girl, into the prom queen before the prom. But two people are trying to stop Jake from succeeding: his evil sister, Catherine, the cruelest girl in school, and Priscilla, the bitchy cheerleader. And all of their friends are the same as any other teen movie: Areola, the naked foreign exchange student, Les, the beautiful weirdo, Malik, the token black guy, the desperate virgins, Amanda Becker, the perfect girl, Ricky, Janey's obsessed best friend, and Sadie, the VERY old undercover reporter.
This movie is one long-running parody of quite a few other movies in the teen romance / feel-good genre of films. The plot here is pretty thin, but since it's a comedy, it's not too much of a problem. Jake (the typical jock) makes a bet with Austin (the typical cocky blonde guy) that he could transform any girl into prom queen material. Austin agrees to the bet, and tries to find the ugliest girl possible. He skips over the siamese twins, the albino hippie, and even the hunchback girl, and settles on Janey... the girl who wears glasses. Jake's sister Catherine makes a deal with him which involves her fixing Janey up to be the hottest girl in school. It's quite the long and tiring process, but eventually Catherine manages to get the glasses off of Janey, and she's now hotter than the head cheerleader. As the movie progresses, Jake starts to fall in love with Janey, up until Janey finds out about the bet; then, Jake has to prove his love to her.

Take the above generic, over-used plot and mix it up with loads of great comedy and lines, and you have this film. The comedy starts out great, with some truly hilarious scenes... Janey getting caught while using her dildo (a nod to American Pie), or the kids crawling through the ventilation shafts to get a peek at what goes on in the girls locker room... those were some awesome scenes. Unfortunately, as the movie goes on, the classic moments tend to fade away, leaving only a few one-liners here and there to attempt to score a few more laughs. By the fifty minute mark or so, the movie starts to feel like Just Another Teen Movie instead of the spoof it was attempting to be.
Most of the stereotypes from various other movies were captured quite nicely here; however, none of them really got any time to do anything. The mean bitch doesn't do anything to warrant the mean bitch status, with the exception of stepping on a guys chest. The stereotypical black guy, used "only to say 'damn', 'shit', and 'that is whack'", is used to say those three lines and one bonus line. The list goes on with the rest of the cast, and unfortunately, the proverbial ball was dropped quite hard with all this. Had more time been given to some of the other cast members instead of focusing so much on on Jake and Janey's affection for one another, the comedy level would have stayed much higher throughout.
Speaking of Jake and Janey's affection, it got very old, very quick. The first few scenes were funny enough, though pulling nothing but a small chuckle or two from myself. However, as the movie wears on, the scenes just start to drag, with long sets of dialogue that the writers had to have thought would be funny, but just come off as lameness maximized. Even Janey's dad, played by Randy Quaid, was horribly underused and could have made some awesome scenes. Again, ball = dropped.
Overall, the first twenty minutes or so were great, then it's all downhill from there. Not worth your time, in my opinion. 4/10, only for the opening scenes.

It was.. ok. The only reason I watched it was
because System of a Down was on the soundtrack.
They only played the music to the song during the
football game. They didn't even include the
Kari Byron's Sex Cyborg

Maybe some who have caught this movie might not
have understood that there were many references to
past teen flicks placed in this movie that if
recognized would have gave off the usual
reference-spot chuckle adding on to the comedy
factor. Even if you haven't seen too many of the
bubblegum girl chick flicks and "teen dramas"
(which I as well have not but am aware of what's
been out and know of enough to catch such related
scenes) I thought there was still plenty of
ridiculous, crude, and mindless humor to go
around. Obviously, this type of humor is 50/50

The coach saying god damn every other word was the
only part I thought was remotely funny. 3/10

This was the only "teen comedy spoof" I
really enjoyed outside of the early Scary Movies.
And you know what, it still holds up. I haven't
watched any of that Date / Epic Movie garbage and
I never will. They did a nice mix of 80's and 90's
teen movies in here with some obvious references
and some that are a little harder to pick out.
It's no Airplane, but it's a decent enough spoof
in my opinion.
