Ned Ravine is a tough detective who is quick to arrest criminals. He is also a brilliant lawyer who successfully defends in court those same criminals whom he arrested. Unfortunately for him, his busy schedule causes him to neglect his wife Lana who seeks solace in the arms of auto mechanic Frank Kelbo. Together, they hatch a plan to murder Ravine and cash in on his insurance policy which carries a triple indemnity cause. Meanwhile, Ravine is seduced by a mysterious blonde named Lola Cain into a one night stand and when he tries to break off their affair, she begins to stalk him. As if all this were not enough, Max Shady, a former client of Ravine harboring a grudge against him, is freshly out of prison and has publicly threatened to murder him. Meanwhile, Ravine's secretary Laura has built a new life for herself away from her controlling, psychotic ex-husband - but he is looking for her.
