A coming-of-age comedy about a young Sydney band trying to get a foothold in the competitive world of rock n' roll. After the band's first gig is a colossal failure, the lead singer takes it upon himself to go out and pursue the most successful rock manager in the country. Meanwhile the other members of the band continue to deal with the kind of every day life issues that can ultimately tear a band apart. It may be the dawn of a new millennium but it's still a long way to the top if you want to rock n' roll. --IMDb

An Australian garage band is trying to get started in the music industry. When they finally get their first gig, it turns out to be a bust. Afterwards, the band goes out for a drink and Freddy finds a mans wallet. It turns out that he's a record producer by the name of Shad Kern. When Freddy goes to return his wallet, Kern's date of night before turned out to be one of his band member's girlfriends. In return for not telling, Kern gave him some backstage passes for an upcoming Sprimp concert. Freddy convinces Kern to see them perform so they can try and get a record deal. As time passes, Kern ends up wanting a demo tape instead. The band has to go through hell to raise the money to be able to record it, but they find a way and put it together.

When the time comes for the tape to be given to Kern, Freddy misses it thanks to one of the band members over dosing on sleeping pills. All seems lost until a month later they find themselves playing at a large festival called Home Bake. Once it's their time to shine, they are told they can't play because the headliners, Sprimp, doesn't want anyone else playing while they are. There were different stages for each act, they obviously had the smaller of the two. When the band is making their way out of the festival, they manage to sneak on stage and play for the large audience. Now up until then, none of their songs have been heard at all through the entire movie. Once the band starts playing, the entire audience begins to boo them. They then realize they suck.

As much as it seems that the movie is about music, it's really not. There's tons of drama in this film with each of the band members going through break-ups and relationship problems. Which that made it quite boring. For being a comedy, the film turned out to be very unfunny. Though there was some comical parts when they had two little 'Fun With Drugs' segments. The first one was just the drummer and guitarist acting like fools. The second time they were all tripping on LSD and started hallucinating. What put a nice touch to that was that it happened during the time the bass player had her parents over for dinner.

One of the things that really got to me was that the band didn't have a name. Garage Days was a title given to a video that was given to Freddy. It had a bunch of clips mixed in together when the band was together doing pretty much nothing involved with music. They always snuck past saying their name. For example, when the band showed Freddy the Home Bake poster, they pointed out the bands name. He squinted his eyes and looked really hard "Oh look, there we are." One of the other members whips out "I though it was a typo!" It just irked me that writers weren't even dedicated enough to give the band a name. This film would have been a lot better, had it touched down on more music.

Final Conclusion: 4/10

This movie blows complete ass.

It's hard to believe that Alex Proyas, the man who diredted The Crow and Dark City was even a part of this film. The ONLY reason I gave this 2 stars was because I thought the bassist chick was cute. But I'd pretty much avoid this movie.

Yeah, I'm going to agree with everyone on this one. I rented it a few years ago, and it looked like it had a lot of potential. Ended up sucking pretty bad.
