Why would I watch this? That is the question I assume many will ask. The answer is simple -- I picked up the entire franchise at Wal-Mart for $9.99 and that includes the third installment of the trilogy. Let me preface it by saying the only reason I picked up the franchise was because I am actually one of those individuals who enjoyed the first film. It was released while I was still in high school and it was just the appropriate timing. I loved slasher films, and still do, and I have always considered the original "I Know What You Did Last Summer" to be one of the better ones to be churned out during that period. The sequel, however, was abysmal. This third film, oddly enough, is not nearly as terrible as I had assumed. It's actually pretty entertaining for the most part.
This is like the "Final Destination 3" for this franchise. The films opens with a Fourth of July prank gone horribly wrong and a group of friends vowing to keep it a secret until the day they die. There's Amber (Brooke Nevin), the sensible girl who doesn't think keeping it a secret is a good idea, at first; Colby (David Paetkau), the jock who is moving off to college; Zoe (Torrey DeVitto), the hard rock chick; and Roger (Seth Packard), the dork. Fast forward a year later and Amber has received some threatening text messages that say, "I know what you did last Summer", so they immediately assume someone knows their secret. A fisherman with a hook starts harassing them, and when they join up with the local stud, Lance (Ben Easter), things really get interesting. Who knows what they did? Who is trying to kill them? Will they make it out alive? Those are the deep questions at the heart of this slasher film. "I'll Always Know What You Did Last Summer" answers each and every one of them.
First off, let me say that this film is not as good as the original. And, since most people probably don't think the original is that good, that tells you what you'll likely think about this one. There's nothing really original. It's all the same teen slasher diatribe. What I enjoyed about the film was that it committed, 100%, to all of the cliches and I thought the way it handled the villain in the film was the way the first film should have. It's always a lot scarier when the thing that's after you really is just a 'thing' and not a person. I thought the production value was rather high quality, the performances were actually pretty good for this type of film and some of the suspense, if you can call it that, was well executed. So, on the whole, I recommend the film to slasher film fans. I'm not saying it's a great film. I'm saying it entertained me. Mindlessly, but entertainment nevertheless.
7/10.

I was not a fan of the post-mordern,
self-referential horror films of the late 90s
(though I do own the "Scream" trilogy)
and didn't really care for "I Know What You
Did Last Summer" and its sequel. Ironically
enough, I actually was quite entertained by this
film. The cinematography went above and beyond
what you usually see in a film of this type, which
I appreciated.

Oops, misspelled 'modern.'
There
should be an "edit comment" feature on
this site, to prevent some of us from looking like
idiots. :-)

I love the fact that you kept trying to figure out
who the killer was, and then it turns out the
killer is just some fucked up demon. I love it
when there's no twist and the killer is just some
monster.

Exactly! I thought it was much more enjoyable than
the first two films.
