As far as weekly wrestling shows go, WWF/E's Monday Night Raw has reigned supreme for a long time. Debuting in 1993, it quickly became the company's flagship show; it was on the front lines of the Monday Night Wars, and its close to twenty year run recently passed a thousand episodes. With these two landmarks so close together, WWE decided it'd be a good time to rank the top hundred moments in the show's history and release them for the paying customer.
The compilation moves along at a decent pace, moving from moment to moment, each one narrated by a various wrestling personality. While some of these personalities are a pleasure to listen to, it'd be nice if they kept the commentator related to the moment a bit more consistently. Sure, some of them lined up, but why is Kofi Kingston chiming in on the beginning of Kane and Undertaker's legendary feud? I understand you want to protect the mystique of the two big men, but surely Paul Bearer would have been the perfect choice. Why is Matt Striker chiming in on anything? He has zero charisma, and no one's interested in this kid's thoughts. Hell, they even pedaled out Vince Russo for a few moments! Here's a man whose grasp on wrestling is so non-existent, he's credited with single-handedly putting WCW out of business; his inclusion is almost insulting! And while Jerry Lawler's opinion is one that's well respected, hearing him end every number with "it was one of the craziest moments on Raw!" was a bit much. Not to mention the man's got a twisted sense of humor, not that there's anything wrong with that. Also, I wish there was a bit more consistency from commentator to commentator. Some of them break kayfabe, some of them keep it intact. Some of them are newly recorded, others were stock interviews from back in the day. It was incredibly uneven.
Naturally, with a release like this, you're not going to be able to please everyone with either the selections or the order they fall in. Still, most people will agree on the basics. For example, I wouldn't have their number one in that location, but it's definitely in the top ten. Still, there were some decisions made that will leave you scratching your head. Was Randy Orton's leaving Evolution really less momentous than Bastista's departure? By eighty places no less! Is the WCW/ECW alliance, one of the worst executed angles in modern history worthy of the top thirty? Was DX reforming in 2002 as a comedy act more important to the company than its original rise to fame in the late 90s? How in the fuck is John Cena being drafted to Raw in the top ten? I know we got to fellate the golden boy at all times, but that's ridiculous. And at least in my opinion, the lack of the Raw is Owen was terribly depressing. Even with my bitching, however, there are definitely some key moments that were a ball to relive, but if you're selling point is ranking the top 100 in twenty years, you're going to have to put some thought into it.
Fortunately for me, Netflix currently has this feature available for streaming. I did enjoy the nostalgia it offers, but it's just too lazily put together to warrant a spot on my DVD shelf. Even if it does come with the complete episode of the thousandth episode of Raw. 5/10.

Did they show where all the ECW guys came out to
"save" the WWE guys, before turning on
them and then reforming ECW? Because THAT was a
badass moment (except for Stephanie's inclusion).
Everything after that sucked, but that one night
was great.

That moment was half that and half the 10-man
match at the end where they officially merged and
introduced Stephanie. Once again, maybe that
moment lost a lot of its weight with me being I
missed ECW's hey day.
