Six thugs, who are strangers to each other, are hired by a crime boss, Joe Cabot, to carry out a diamond robbery. Right at the outset, they are given false names with the intention that they won't get too close and will concentrate on the job instead. They are completely sure that the robbery is going to be a success. But, when the police show up right at the time and the site of the robbery, panic spreads amongst the group members, and two of them are killed in the subsequent shootout, along with a few policemen and civilians. When the remaining people assemble at the premeditated rendezvous point (a warehouse), they begin to suspect that one of them is an undercover cop.

Our opening scene puts us in a restaurant, listening to the boys chat about Madonna's song "Like A Virgin", and discussing the pro's and con's of tipping the waitress. Pretty nice opener, although I'm sure it doesn't sound it. Credits roll (I hate movies that show a half hour of credits in the beginning, but eh), and our movie starts. Seems the gang has pulled off a huge diamond theft, and Mr. Orange has been near-fatally shot in the process. Mr. White is trying to get him some medical attention, but to no avail. He takes him up to their warehouse hideout, and tries to figure out what to do. The rest of the gang starts to show up, and Mr. Pink brings up the idea that there could be a snitch amongst them. Paranoia sets in as they try to figure out if there really is one, and if so, whom it is.
Great movie by ol' Quentin. As seems to be popular with him, this movie has the tried-and-true mixing up of the scenes; so the opening scene is really around the middle of the movie in regards to the storyline, some of the final scenes are really the beginning of the story, etc. If you've seen the ever-popular "Pulp Fiction", you'll know what I mean. Pretty interesting how it all works out, in my opinion. And suprisingly, it kept me interested from beginning to end; not once did I check to see how long the movie had been playing to figure up how much longer until the credits would be rolling.
The storyline given to us was done very nicely; nothing overly original, but the way it was executed was very nice. Quentin has a knack for taking some of the most ordinary actions and making them into a classic scene; ie, the discussion on tipping the waitress. On paper, it'd probably look quite lame, but it was made into a great scene. Some of the credit for that has to go to the actors, obviously. And again, very nicely done on that side of things. Everyone involved had their place in the flow of the movie, and everyone played their role out to perfection.
Since there's lots of shootings taking place, there should be some great effects, correct? Check in that box. There wasn't a kill-a-minute, but when deaths were needed, it came out excellently. The best part, effects-wise, was definitely the ear that was cut off. Very realistic looking there, and a nice touch.
Overall, great movie from Quentin. If you enjoyed his other work, don't forget about this one. 10/10.

Loving Criminals "Scooby Snacks" come. "Are you
cool? *CRASH* Yeah i'm cool" and "I dont know
about any setup you can torture me all you want.

This is my favorite movie of all time. Tarantino,
as good as he is, will never make another movie as
good as this.

So. Quentin Tarantino. A kooky little man, to say
the least. Brilliant, too, don't forget that.
He broke into the scene with this one, so
to speak. There's no way in HELL I could complain
about anything about this flick. It's actually
pretty much not original at all, plot-wise.
Execution-wise, though. Oooh boy, you bet it's
something different.
Either way. If
you want one of the scariest, yet most enjoyable
scenes of all time put to celluloid (and you know
which one I'm talking about), this is it.

Most excellent movie. The ending could have been
retooled and some questions remained at the end,
but a killer soundtrack, insanely great acting,
and an awesome storyline keep this movie in my top
20.

This is my 3rd favorite movie ever! Following only
Ichi the Killer and Puppet Master 3... It's so
confusing at first but in the end, it all makes
sense... very original and I love the ending.
EVERYONE DIES!
Tha twas alittle ironic.

Great movie... but I must admit that for all it's
retro stylings, I liked it better the first
time... when it was called "City on
Fire" and starred the inimitable Chow Young
Fat.
Sure... there are many
stylistic differences... but at it's heart, all
the best moments are lifted from Ringo Lam's
earlier effort.

Either you like this kind of movie, or you don't.
It was definitely well done, so, if you've liked
any thing else by Quentin, you'll love this. It
wasn't for me though. 7/10
