In Messina, the Christmas of 1908 is about to unfold. A wealthy English family in the city is notorious for the behavior of their thirteen-year-old son, Peter, who torments other children, the household servants, and animals. However, a revenge plot sees Peter buried alive in a Gothic cemetery, trapped underground after an earthquake destroys the city and leaves him forgotten. One hundred years later, an English archaeologist and his daughter return to the city looking for answers.
