Just before World War II starts, Dovidl is ushered into London by his father. He is taken in by Gilbert after he impresses him with his violin skills. When it becomes clear that his family did not survive the war, Dovidl sheds his identity and begins to focus on honing his craft. However, just before his big debut, he vanishes. Years later, his adoptive brother, Martin, sets out to find him.
