Older, wiser but still a wandering loner, the blind, peace-loving masseur Ichi seeks a peaceful life in a rural village. When he's caught in the middle of a power struggle between two rival Yakuza clans, his reputation as a deadly defender of the innocent is put to the ultimate test in a series of sword-slashing showdowns. --IMDb

Zatoichi stumbles into a town, after getting out of jail, that leaves him no choice but to battle for his life. The town is controlled by two different gangs, both of which are trying to get complete control over the town and rid the world of Zatoichi. One of the gangs actually try to get Zatoichi on their side, but have no luck. He also meets two young ladies during his journey through survival. One who falls in love with him and the other that treats him like a father.

Samurai films usually aren't gory, but this one had several blood sprayings. Most of them done by swords, but a number amount of others were done very stylish. For example, during a meeting one of the gangs was having, someone attempted to stand up from their place and attack the boss. Spikes came up from the floors and went directly through the man, blood sprayed everywhere. Another would be when Zatoichi was fighting a group of people. Two men were behind him and one was running at him with a bamboo spear. Zatoichi cut the spear in two while the man was running at him, with the two pieces flying into the two behind him and the spear carrier getting stabbed with his sword.

Story wise, it was very nice. I can't compare it to any of the other twenty five films, seeings how I haven't watched any of them. Though it was an excellent movie. Shintaro Katsu directed, wrote, produced and starred as Zatoichi. To top that, he had throat cancer while putting all of this together. He executed it nicely, as did everyone else with their rolls. The nudity was limited to a single breast from one of the ladies he came across. Even that was a bit much for this type of movie. If you're into samurai movies, pick this up.

Final Conclusion: 8/10

A very good movie, great interpritation of the old series, not so much the original story.
