Eight recent high school graduates want to celebrate by spending the night in a furniture store that is owned by one of their fathers. While at the store, the teens decide to play a game of Hide And Seek. Then strange things start happening. There are screams and several of the friends are missing. Does the ex-con that is working and living in the furniture store have anything to do with it?

I have been aware of Hide And Go Shriek for years. However, it never got a Region 1 DVD release. So I broke down and bought a VHS copy online. And after watching it, I can say that while I liked it, I doubt anyone who isn't a big fan of 80's slasher movies will.

Hide And Go Shriek delivers everything that most of those 80's slashers did. There's gratuitous nudity (6 breasts to be exact), gore, and suspense. But all of it is pretty predictable, except for the reveal of the killer. That was surprising. I won't say why it was surprising, because I don't want to spoil anything. Oh, and like in Terror Train the killer wears his victims clothes to confuse potential victims. And the ending sets the movie up for a sequel that never happened and doubtfully ever will.

There are also some creepy moments here, with lots of mannequins turning up around the dimly lit store. Speaking of dimly lit, there is one glaring problem with the movie. Most of it takes place in the dark, as the lights are off in the store. So a lot of the action is hard to make out. It's not bad enough to bring the movie down too much, but it does hurt it a little. And while the death scenes are all fine, especially a decapitation, I'm sure they would have had more impact if they would have been more well lit.

None of the performances are great or anything, but none of them were bad either. I liked Sean Kanan, who went on to co-star in the ABC soap General Hospital, but he was one of the first to bite the big one. None of the actors really had any problem showing fear when it was needed. There is one scene that I found very effective, when four of the teens find one of their friends dead. The look on their faces is priceless. They really looked concerned.

So, what we have here is an above average late 80's slasher movie that sort of reminded me of Intruder, only set in a furniture store instead of a grocery store. It would probably be an 8/10 if it wasn't so dark, but I had to knock a point off for that. So I'm going with a 7/10.
