There are some movies that you can tell are destined to become cult classics with just a glance at the title, plot, and the leading man - you don't even need to see the final product to know that it's going to be a keeper, and Black Santa's Revenge is certainly one of those movies. I mean, let's face it: how can you go wrong with a film inspired by the blaxploitation flicks of the seventies that just so happens to feature Ken Foree in the leading role as a shotgun-wielding Santa? Tell me, did any cult and / or horror fans out there read that last sentence and not immediately get it into their head to pick this one up with the quickness? I thought not.

It's Christmas time, and our good pal Black Santa (Ken Foree) is volunteering at the local community center for poor children, where he lets them sit on his lap and tell him what they want this year. Unbeknownst to the kids, however, this center has been collecting money and toys so that these kids can have a good Christmas for a change, and Santa is the main man behind setting this all up. However, things take a turn for the worse when a gang of thugs rob the place and steal every last one of the toys, and when the cops won't do anything to help, Santa decides to do whatever it takes to make sure that the neighborhood children have a very merry Christmas... even if it means using his little sawed-off friend to help take down the entire gang and get the toys back himself.

Everyone has those special movies that they break out at certain times of the year - who doesn't break out Halloween on October 31st? Christmas is no different, and for this particular holiday, I usually break out my copy of Die Hard along with one of the many Christmas-oriented slasher flicks from the eighties. Now, after having sat through Black Santa's Revenge, I can honestly say that this movie has easily found a spot on my yearly to-watch list, as it's just a perfect little film that totally gets us into the holiday spirit... well, those of us with a fascination for the bizarre, anyway.

With Ken Foree in the leading role, I really shouldn't even have to comment on the performances found here, as after all, who doesn't love Mr. Foree? The only thing that I was worried about prior to watching this was that maybe Ken owed someone a favor, and as such, showed up and turned in an uninspired performance. I thought this because even though Foree isn't an A-list actor (even though he should be), it seemed a little odd that he would show up in an underground short film that I hadn't even heard of before it went on sale. My fears were quickly laid to rest, however, after I saw the man in action. Those of you who enjoyed him as a pimp in The Devil's Rejects will absolutely fall in love when you see how he plays a jive-talking version of Santa, and just try not to cheer when he gives a police detective a verbal beat-down or when he starts dropping thugs with his twelve-gauge. This is b-movie madness at its very best, and personally, I loved each and every last minute of it.

It should go without saying by this point in the review, but you owe it to yourself to head on over to the official site and pick yourself up a copy. It's campy, it's violent, it's outrageously over-the-top, and above all else, it's one hell of a film. 10/10.
