Fed up with the shenanigans of his obnoxious second wife, Vanessa, the self-made multi-millionaire clothing manufacturer, Thornton Melon, pays his college undergraduate son, Jason, a surprise visit. When Thornton discovers that his mixed-up son wants to drop out, he decides to go back to school, and enrolls himself as a freshman, intent on earning the degree he never had. However, money can't buy everything, and before long, Thornton realizes that he may have bitten off more than he can chew.
