Four Jack-the-lads find themselves heavily - seriously heavily - in debt to an East End hard man and his enforcers after a crooked card game. Overhearing their neighbors in the next flat plotting to hold up a group of out-of-their-depth drug growers, our heroes decide to stitch up the robbers in turn. In a way the confusion really starts when a pair of antique double-barreled shotguns go missing in a completely different scam.

Let me just start off by saying that I feel swindled. I picked this up after hearing nothing but praise of how this is one of the greatest British comedies released in the last ten years. This is bullshit. This is hardly a comedy at all, there are several scenes that get a laugh out of you, but they're all done so dryly that it's hard to do so. Well, that said, this is not one of the greatest British comedies released in the last ten years. It is one of the greatest British films released in the last ten years.
Eddie (Nick Moran) is a talented card player who finally decides to go big, competing in an underground card game. He and his friends gather together a total 100000 pounds to compete in the game, not realizing that it's been fixed by local crime-boss, "Hatchet" Harry (P.H. Moriarty). After losing the game (obviously) Eddie and his friends are given a week to return their debt... or else obviously bad things will happen to them. With no real means of acquiring the money they begin listening in on the neighbors, a group of thugs led by the vicious Dog (Frank Harper), who plan a rather large heist. This gives Eddie and friends a plan: Why not rob the robbers? Seems simple enough, huh?
Like I said, this movie is amazing. Nothing is out of place here; the pacing, the comedy, the violence, the suspense... all of it, perfect. It'd be near impossible to be bored throughout this film. The performances were spot-on and hilarious through-out, but, as I said, it's hard to look at this as a comedy, a lot of the scenes can be taken rather seriously, but, for some reason always go back to a hilarious outcome. Take the scene in the bar, a situation that, although extremely witty, almost hilarious, all comes to a terrible death scene. You don't know whether to laugh or feel an air of calm displacement, but the scene is still completely enjoyable.
I have to say I respect Guy Ritchie for making a film like this. It can either take itself completely seriously or frolic off into a comedy at any minute, and it would still be amazingly fun. It's funny in all the right ways and just holds you to it. Not to mention the violence is good and fine through the movie... I mean, how many movies have a man being beaten to death with a fifteen-inch black rubber cock? Hmmm? Yeah... that's right. Well, blood, bullets and comedy aside, there really isn't a negative comment to be had. It was surprising at times and never boring. The only bad part about it was it never got the sequel it so rightly deserved.
I've always respected British film for its dry wit, but I don't think I've ever seen a movie that was so witty that you couldn't tell the jokes from the serious moments. This felt like some weird combination of "Reservoir Dogs" with an episode of "Spaced"... but... it just managed to feel so... flawless...
I love this film. Not absolutely perfect, but damn near. 9.3/10.

I've heard this compared more than once to
Boondock Saints, which is one of my favorite
films. I actually downloaded this awhile ago for
here, but haven't gotten around to it due to
sweaty Japanese guys in monster costumes and those
dumb Puppet Master movies. Glad to see yet another
good thing said about it though.

I'm going to have to partially agree with Edd on
this one. It was an alright movie, but highly
overrated, and the ending sucked. 6/10

I am going to agree with Edd on this one too. I
hated "Lock, Stock...". I really don't think Guy
Ritchie has very much talent as a filmmaker.
"Snatch" only had a few redeeming qualities.
Yeah, did not like this one at all really. 4/10.

stoked to see "Rocknrolla" because Tom
Wilkinson owns.

Really damn good. Just watched it for the first
time not too long ago, kinda boring at parts but
kept my attention pretty much throughout. I'd give
it an 8/10.
