Buried
Buried Appreciate what they were attempting to do but it wasn't able to keep me engaged. 6.5/10.

Super 8
Super 8 Loved this one. Nice nostalgic feel. Nothing monumental but memorable and exciting. Go Amblin! 9/10.

The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence)
The Human Centipede II (Full Sequence) There really is no need for me to comment on this but I will do it anyway. The people who like the first film will, for the most part, like the second. I didn't love the first film but thought it was very well shot and rather entertaining and not nearly as revolting as people had led me to believe. What made the original work was that it wasn't all gore and all gut-wrenching - it had a plot and was aiming for something. The sequel aims for nothing except to turn the stomach. As a film, it's the lowest form of dreck. I think Tom Six is a fine horror director and I think he has far better films in him than this. #2 on my worst films of the year list. 1/10.

Congo
Congo This is the kind of epic bad I just LOVE.

Frozen
Frozen Yeah - definitely not in love with this film like you are. I cannot put my finger on it but it just felt like it was missing something. I didn't think it was very original, premise wise, and I thought the acting was the only thing that saved it. Not a terrible film, just more like a 6.5/10 for me.

50/50
50/50 9/10. Terrific and one of the best films of the year. This one will be wholly under-appreciated come awards time and that's a shame. Joseph Gordon-Levitt does some damned fine acting here and Anjelica Huston is so memorable as his mother. Love, love, loved this movie.

Paranormal Activity 3
Paranormal Activity 3 8/10. Better than the original but not as solid as the second film. I appreciate the fact that this franchise keeps slipping into the hands of talented directors. The guys who did "Catfish" did this one and they handled the premise and executed it well, I thought. I agree - the ending felt more like "The Last Exorcism" than anything else, but it had a nice amount of scares and I loved how they handled the whole 'imaginary friend' thing. Solid horror film.

Final Destination 2
Final Destination 2 I very much enjoyed the first film. I thought the second was just plain awful. The third film is my favorite of the entire franchise. The fourth film was entertaining but very very flawed. The fifth film is absolute garbage. So I am the exception there - I don't think "Final Destination" works quite like the "Saw" films - I loved some of the films and hated the others based on quality. As for Part 2 - 3/10.

Let Me In
Let Me In And I thought the little boy in the remake was better than the little boy in the original.

Let Me In
Let Me In As someone who thinks all remakes are unnecessary, I agree with you. However, despite that opinion, it was nice to see the same material through the lens of another filmmaker. I found it to be different enough.

Let Me In
Let Me In I just felt Reeves did a better job of creating an atmosphere in this film -- the whole thing -- music, costumes, cinematography. I do think the original is better, on the whole, but this one was damned close. And it was better than the original in some key areas.

The Ice Storm
The Ice Storm A masterpiece. 10/10. Heartbreaking and beautiful.

Predators
Predators I enjoyed the hell out of this one and thought it worked pretty damned well. The story was engaging and the actors were better than any other "Predator" film ever. Yeah it was tough buying Adrien Brody as a bad-ass but he was no worse than Christian Bale as Batman. I thought they went for all-out entertainment with this one and it really did make sense for me. The best since the original and, production wise, better than the original. 8/10.

Silent Night, Deadly Night III: Better Watch Out!
Silent Night, Deadly Night III: Better Watch Out! Wow. I forgot they even made this one. Truly truly terrible for me. 2/10.

I am the one with the gun. We recorded this as a promo for our "Silent Night Deadly Night" screening last year.

The Expendables
The Expendables I cannot say I was not disappointed by this film. From the people involved I was really hoping this would be a phenomenal action film. It turned out to be just okay. It was nice seeing all these guys together and I especially enjoyed Eric Roberts. 7/10. Could have been SO much better.

Saw: The Final Chapter
Saw: The Final Chapter The amount of people that worked on it is a PERFECT judge of how much time and attention were put into the 3D elements of the film. Some companies are better than others, and the more people that work on the 3D elements the more polished the film typically looks. So it has EVERYTHING to do with it. Once again, just to compare it to another horror film, look at how many people worked on "My Bloody Valentine 3D" -- a ton. And the film (though not great) has that depth of field throughout. "Saw 3D" only has it here and there meaning that they only worked on the scenes they liked the best and not the film as a whole. "Piranha 3D" had the same problem and so did "The Final Destination". Had more people worked on it they could have spent more time on scenes they ended up skipping. I dislike 3D used in any gimmicky way and I just don't think "Saw" did even close to a good job of going for anything other than gimmicky.

And I am sorry but fans follow the films for the story? Insane. Hell, most people I know who have watched every film probably couldn't describe the story for me if I asked them to. They follow for the kills and the gore. And I lump "Saw" in with other torture porn because that is exactly what it is, except those others film have a better track record of casting even pseudo-talented actors. "Saw" has a tendency to go for the bottom of the barrel there.

They were always going to make more "Saw" films until they stopped being profitable. The completion of the story had nothing to do with anything for anyone. Luckily for us, the films stopped performing well because they kept remaking the same film over and over again.

Saw: The Final Chapter
Saw: The Final Chapter I will give you the first one -- that was some mis-wording on my part. As for the 3D thing you are just dead wrong. Very well done? It was horribly rendered and looked like they put zero effort into making it look even close to good. I noticed barely any picture depth. It was a gimmick just like most other 3D films. A sure way to know I am right is to look at the technical credits at the end of the film -- compare that to a QUALITY 3D film and you will see how little effort they put into it.

The Human Centipede (First Sequence)
The Human Centipede (First Sequence) Agreed. Overrated piece of crap. 2/10 because I enjoy the word 'centipede'.

Saw: The Final Chapter
Saw: The Final Chapter Hmmmm...it is my day job...thank God I don't get many complaints from legitimate readers...

My Soul To Take
My Soul To Take Well...that is what is was supposed to be the SECOND time they shot it. I'd love to see all that unused footage from the first shoot.

The Crazies
The Crazies I enjoy this one also. Very well handled. 8/10.

Blood On The Highway
Blood On The Highway Well -- "Blood on the Highway" is not the best film of the year; that's a rather...how should I say it...dumb statement. But it is entertaining nevertheless. I agree with most of the review above.

A Serbian Film
A Serbian Film Oh, if only your screen name were fortuitous...

A Serbian Film
A Serbian Film Yes -- I apologize to the world for not liking certain films. Heaven forbid I have specific tastes. And thank you for your compliment on my review -- I wanted my review to match the film and evidently I succeeded.

A Serbian Film
A Serbian Film I damned the movie for not enjoying it and thinking it was pointless. How is that wrong? I think "Disaster Movie" did what it set out to do also -- does that mean I should give it a higher score? Come on...

A Serbian Film
A Serbian Film My score is a reflection of the level of my recommendation. I would not recommend this film to ANYONE even with its positive merits. Just because someone tosses some glitter on a turd -- yeah, it's a pretty turd but it's still a piece of shit. All of the things I mentioned in my review are true -- they do not make the film worth seeing.

Machete
Machete I needed the heads up as much as you need some tact etiquette. So I guess I would say "thank you".

Machete
Machete Thanks, Comment Patrol, for that rundown.
Posted by bluemeanie on September 10, 2010
Machete
Machete Just because you say they are 'guy movies' doesn't mean that says it's all that appeals to guys. He didn't say 'the only movies guys watch'. Just because I call "Eat Pray Love" a chick flick doesn't mean any girls watch it.

Machete
Machete I can think of no better terminology for it than 'guy movies' -- that's a friendly and appropriate term for films like that. And someone obviously has a biased opinion towards Mr. Tarantino.

Machete
Machete Well...I loved "Death Proof" and agree with "Planet Terror". Don't expect much more than you got with "Planet Terror" but don't expect it to be as AMAZING as "Death Proof" either.

The Last Exorcism
The Last Exorcism You will either love it or hate it. I feel towards the former.

Blood Creek Michael Fassbender = Wasted. 5/10.

Survival Of The Dead
Survival Of The Dead Thoroughly enjoyed this one. I loved the level of humor in it and the whole Irish thing made me smile. Romero really put some thought into this script and it shows. For me, this was more enjoyable than both "Diary of the Dead" and "Land of the Dead". Too much CGI, at times, but otherwise a nice romp. 8/10.

I Know What You Did Last Summer
I Know What You Did Last Summer You know, I have a soft spot in my heart for this one. I was a teenager when these films came out and they really were entertaining to me. I always preferred this one over the others. Attractive cast, clever premise and generally well executed. Nice nostalgia for me. 7/10.

A Nightmare On Elm Street
A Nightmare On Elm Street Dreadful. Awful. Pathetic. Those are words I would use to describe this complete waste of time. The editing was awful...choppy and and amateurish. The CGI was lame and unnecessary. The violence level was so sad -- not even close to as gruesome as the original film. The performances were, for the most part, pretty terrible, most notably Kellan Lutz, Rooney Mara (Daria-Nancy) and -- yes -- Jackie Earle Haley. Haley is not Freddy. No matter how you slice it. I didn't like the direction they took that Krueger character and I didn't like how dumbass thought -- I'll just wait here with some office supplies and take care of Freddy when you pull him out. Did I mention how Connie Britton and Clancy Brown were totally wasted in this film? Not as bad a remake as "Friday the 13th" but terrible nonetheless. 3/10.

Inglourious Basterds 10/10. Nothing more.

Brothers Hmmmm...considering just as much was filmed in Sweden as Denmark, I would say you're a little out of your knowledge base.

Transsiberian
Transsiberian Yes, I read...and I am pretty swift at inferring also. That's what makes me smarter than you...:)

Yes...I have seen "Le Doulos" and have been a BIG fan of Melville's work for a while now. I prefer "The Red Circle".
Posted by bluemeanie on December 16, 2009
Transsiberian
Transsiberian Just because I compare one film to another is not suggesting one is better than the other. Hell, I can compare "Operation Dumbo Drop" to a Hitchcock film if I wanted to.

Zombieland
Zombieland Love, love, loved this film. I thought the humor was spot-on and right up my alley. Woody Harrelson kicks major amounts of ass. Of course, the cameo was the highlight of the film for me, but I loved the tongue-in-cheek way it approached just about everything. Best zombie film I have seen in a while. 8/10.

Paranormal Activity
Paranormal Activity I wasn't expecting to enjoy this film in the slightest but was surprised at how much I actually did. I thought the execution was handled very well, the performances were solid and the pacing was just how it needed to be. Some of the scares really worked. I did, however, think the theatrical ending was ridiculous and we can all blame Steven Spielberg for that one (his one fuck up). Otherwise, a terrific little horror film. 8/10.

The House Of The Devil
The House Of The Devil You might have seen a different version. There is one version that is 8 minutes longer than the version I saw. It's the difference between the festival cut and the distributor cut. That might have been the padding to which you are referring.

Trick 'R Treat
Trick 'R Treat I concur 100%.

Jennifer's Body
Jennifer's Body WHAT?! 0/10? Come on -- there was some clever shit going down in this film. I loved the sense of humor (which, of course, was all Diablo Cody), thought Amanda Seyfriend did a fantastic job. This film never bored me. I am shocked by your score. Go figure. 7/10.

S. Darko Can be summed up in one word: Why? 0/10.

Fear(s) Of The Dark
Fear(s) Of The Dark This one really just bored me to tears. I had high hopes since the trailer first came out, but there was too much of 'nothing' going on for me to stay interested, despite some amazing visuals. 5/10.
