This is one of those rare movie for me that was so good, I watched it a second time right after the credits started to roll. I haven't done that in years (First Blood, in 1982 I think). So lets get into what makes this animated kids feature a treasure for all ages.

The story concerns a villain named Gru (Steve Carell), who inherits a trio of fun loving girls. Gru has a plan to steal the moon with almost everything going wrong from the start. He needs to steal a shrink ray from his arch enemy (Jason Segel), deal with his hard of hearing scientist (Russell Brand), and learn to handle the girls that are in his care (voiced by Miranda Cosgrove, Dana Gaier & Elsie Fisher). Lastly he even has to handle failures in his past from his mother (Julie Andrews).

Things go from bad to worse for Gru as he finds that he cannot get a loan from the Villains bank (and we find out why later on). So he has to do everything with the aid of his "minions". They are a very comical standout in this movie. They have their own language, which is pretty easy to figure out, but makes for great laughs.

Gru starts to have feelings for the girls he's come to care for, and his scientist, Dr. Nefarious sees this as a problem to Gru's attempt at stealing the moon. Many humorous problems arise and hilarity ensues, turning almost every problem into an opportunity for the audience to laugh along.

This is one of those great animated films that is aimed equally at adult and child audience members. As I love animated features, I laughed at it all. But there were some definite moments of humor aimed at the adults, and some tender moments for us to reflect on as well (especially if you have children of your own).

The version of the movie I saw was 2-D, so I cannot comment on how well the 3-D elements went down. I know that I am going to buy the deluxe version of the film (as should you) which features an extra disc of short films featuring the minions, or if you buy the Blu-ray, these are included on the disc.

A villain who is really a good guy, some of the cutest little girls in recent animation and a ton of belly laughs make this the perfect movie for anyone with a funny bone. Everyone should own a copy of Despicable Me. 10/10.

This was a pretty good movie, but the minions are overrated. I swear, anytime one of them even appeared on screen, the entire theater was in an uproar. It was absurd. Oh, and I did see it in 3D and it added absolutely nothing. So, seeing it in 2D would have been the better way to go.
