The local town of Tarker's Mill is being picked off one by one by an unknown being. A local woman is slaughtered, a railroad operator is beheaded, and even a child is killed. A group of locals mob together to take out whatever it is that's doing all this, with no luck. Marty, a wheelchair-bound kid, thinks it's a werewolf knocking people off, but nobody will listen to the poor kid, even after he claims to have seen and shot it with a firework.
Pretty decent little werewolf flick. The effects and lines were quite dated, considering the movie is only 19 years old, but it was passable. Gary Busey plays his role pretty nicely, but I've always been a fan of his, so I may be biased. The main kid was alright, but quite cheesy at times... you could tell he was trying to be adorable for the teenaged girls in the audience. Otherwise, not too bad of a flick.
There were a number of kills in here, but most weren't shown too much. You'd see the werewolf pop up, a slash or two of the claws, then cut out. That was a bit disappointing to me, but there was ample blood shown in the afterworks.
Some of the scenes were done quite nicely, especially the dream sequence by the werewolf guy. That was easily the best scene in the movie, with the kite kid being a distant second. However, the grand finale was too rushed, I thought... I'm never a fan of a movie building up this badass monster, then having him killed off in two minutes. But I digress.
Suppose this would get a 5/10, average, but don't go out of your way to get it.

This was one of my favorite horror films as a child, and it was always so hard to find on VHS back in the day. Watching it today, it seems a little wacky and ridiculous, but I still love the hell out of it. Gary Busey gives a nice over-the-top performance and I think every little kid in the 1980's wished they were crippled so they could have a wheelchair just like Corey Haim. Fond memories...6.5/10.
